Bootcamp update and how not become a frozen turkey

Yesterday was indeed a feast that started with Dr. Jay our soca lord pouring his heart and soul into our palance (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=palance) with his brilliant musical selection propelling us to gorge on the dance floor! The feast ended with healthy, Caribbean style meals prepared by Continental Soiree - Iron Pot caterers.

While on the topic of feast – how many of you wash your hands before eating? Can you remember going to a Shango feast (http://www.onlinenigeria.com/festivals/) in Trinidad for the first time as a visitor? Well, the first thing you did when you entered the feast was “wash your hands” in a washbasin filled with some funny smelling water that didn’t make you feel to use them to eat after – then, (and I particularly didn’t like this part) everyone would dry his hands with the same towel - REMEMBER THAT! Had to diverge a bit – nevertheless, I’m happy to inform you that Taibu Community Health Centre (http://www.taibuchc.ca/) is ecstatic to join our Socacize family to reinforce the importance of eating “clean”. They will also be providing healthy snacks at our bootcamps and regular sessions.
I’m no pundit, but I can certainly tell that after our bootcamp sessions, 75% of you will be ending your 9-session or 9-day feast to transform into a frozen turkey – yes, some of you chosen ones will freeze before winter and develop S.A.D – Seasonal affective disorder
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder). Here are some tips to motivate you to seek a more active and healthy lifestyle, but you should try to start now so that these practices become habit before freezing point:

* eat frequently – but in very small portions (at least 5 times a day, a fruit can be a meal

* don’t pack up the charger size plates -sever your meal in a smaller plate to reduce your portion

* replace juice with water – unless you’re selecting 100% juice

* replace white bread - with100% whole wheat, multi-grain etc.

* reduce cream and sugar - coffee and tea drinkers,instead of a double-double start with 1 ½ sugar and 1 cream or 1 sugar and 1 cream

* alcohol – drink moderately

* NO eating after 7:00. p.m., - if you must eat, have a cup of herbal tea and a healthy sandwich

* if you are attending Socacize only once a week – walk for at least half-hour another day in the week

* Attitudinal change – nice-up-yourself with a pedicure and manicure (please not maniCLAW) at least once a month; keep your hair simple, neat and clean, if you insist on wearing wigs make sure they enhance your look and treat them as your own hair, don’t expect to wear them till thy kingdom come and not wash and have them refreshed by a hairdresser – it is said that “God made every body in his own image and likeness” but just remember that most of us were made bald and none of us were made with a tacky wig; take advantage of summer – there is nothing wrong with allowing your skin to breath and shine – replace the long pants and long sleeve with a mini skirt and strapless tops or sun dresses!
